You are God’s One and Only

My son is a self-proclaimed ‘collector of stones.’ When I see a driveway full of rocks, heĀ sees treasure. He searches for favorites and shows me his joys, describing and identifying beauty in each one.

I’m always surprised how unique they are when I start looking, despite being just rocks.stones-this one is special-we re Gods One and Only_HeartinFormation

Does God see us and seek us like this?

Are humans just a blur of faces and 9-digit numbers or maybe something more?

Fact: My kids are the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen and maybe (hopefully!) every parent feels the same. If I’m in a crowded place, my eyes are always seeking for them, my ears always alert to their calls. And while I appreciate the beauty of all children, mine stole my heart.

If God is the Real Parent, then each of us, individually, must also be the most beautiful thing *He ever saw. (and I don’t believe it matters if we know or acknowledge God or not– my kids never even have to look at me or speak to me, I’d still love them and die for them. Period).

We see a sandy beach, God sees each granule…

There are 7 billion people on the planet and an infinite more have gone before us, but none was ever insignificant to God–quite the opposite–my kids are my world so multiply that by infinity/God-scale. He made and gave up everything for us, including His Own Life (like any good parent).

We’re wildly loved, irreplaceable, once-in-a-lifetime Individuals, infinitely and individually God’s One and Only.

“Under the microscope, I found that snowflakes were miracles of beauty; and it seemed a shame that this beauty should not be seen and appreciated by others. Every crystal was a masterpiece of design and no one design was ever repeated. When a snowflake melted, that design was forever lost. Just that much beauty was gone…” Wilson ‘Snowflake’ Bentley 1925

Unlike snowflakes we are destined to live forever, (thankfully with a body, soul and mind that has/will never experience a cruel word, deed, look or even thought).

*I use He and His as simple pronouns for God but fully recognize with male and female “identity” – for lack of a better word. I find this throughout the bible but also in humanity itself. You can read more here: Transgender God

  1. I also witness Godā€™s love in stones. Everytime I go to the beach, I find a heart shaped stone and always say, thank you Jesus for sending me reminders that I am loved and your child. After my dog, my son JoeyD passed away, I found 3 stones that were shaped as a dogs face, a heart with a smiley face and a dog. So unique, I kept them and posted on FB to share my gems. I also see it as my blessing from God that my father is sending me a sign that he loves me and misses me. Each stone is unique and I see why your son would be fascinated with each one. Very special to find such gems in nature.

  2. Thank you for this post, Mama Jasmine!
As a woman who is blessed to be a mother, and a grandmother, this post made my heart soar with intense recognition of/identification with the topic — feeling one’s children and grandchildren are absolutely theeee most beautiful things one has ever seen in life.

You keenly drew a connection from that strong maternal/parental instinct directly to how God feels about each of us, which helped me “get” the depth, breadth and intensity of God’s love and attraction to His 7 billion children – each of us beautifully made in His image.
    Thank you!
Happy Mother’s Day to you and your readers!
    God bless!
