When the Ball blew away… Little Things Matter

This is part of the  “Wild Kids, Wild God- 31 Days Looking into God’s Heart” series.

The wind is blowing hard these days. I love the rushing sound and watching leaves shake and tumble–it’s like music and dancing to me!

Yesterday I was gazing out my son’s window and could see his favorite ball wedged on top of a garage roof. We couldn’t get it without danger to ourselves or the roof, so we left it, though my son loved it. deflated ball

The ball became part of the scenery.

But today, while my husband was heading out with the kids, he stopped the car. I thought something was wrong and watched intently from the window. He walked to a puddled area, bent down, and came up with the lost ball! What?!

I motioned to my husband from behind the window, “Did the wind do that?” He nodded yes. A gratitude bomb hit me…

Just yesterday I was looking at that ball, thinking of the loss, and in the evening I was telling a friend how tired I am of seeing the leaves blow when really I just want to see the “Wind,” that is, God.

And now this manifold Glimpse. How can God be so big, yet care so much about the little, ‘insignificant’ things..?wpid-wp-1447694340497.jpg

The truth is, that ball wasn’t “insignificant” –not to my son atleast. So then it wasn’t insignificant to God either.

And neither was my personal ‘spoiled brat’ longing to see the Wind when I should be content with glimpses of God from the “blowing leaves” or “shaking trees” (you know them, special “coincidences” or way things work out that are so sweet or so right…)

God affirmed my desire to see Him too, even if just for an instant, with this tangible glimpse of His Hand and Breath moving in the “Wind”…

Of all the ways to touch my heart, this was indeed an act of Someone Who knows me…

That wind blew the ball near our door and into a dip so it would stay put, my son was the first to see it, and a gust that big was then also big enough to blow the ball anywhere. It may have been picked by a passing kid, or tossed by a neighbor, since the ball was really busted…

In our minds, our lives and in this world we may look around and see chaos and destruction, but keep Hope.

God does care. God does Give a Damn. Not a single teardrop is missed. How could it be? If God cares about a deflated, color-worn ball, you better believe He cares about you and me…we are God’s Own Kids!

And maybe, when we feel the most defeated, downtrodden, brokenhearted, or broken, maybe that’s when He’s the Closest…

More tomorrow in the “Wild Kids, Wild God, 31 Days looking into God’s Heart” series!

*I use the “He/His” pronoun for God but completely recognize God’s Male and Female “Identity” (for lack of a better word) as evidence in the Bible and through humanity. Yes, a post on this is coming!
Till then:  “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. ” (Genesis 1:27)
Did anyone catch this? God used 2 genders to express His Image…

  1. Dear Jasmine.
This post made my heart soar.
It was so uplifting to experience God’s concern and caring about your son’s feelings, and read about the positive action He took to return your son’s favorite ball.
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful and encouraging “THIS IS WHO GOD IS/THIS IS GOD’S HEART” experience.
    FANTASTIC!
    AMEN!
